Weight Tracker

Brief Description:

Mac version (1.2.1) improves compatibility with Leopard. Windows XP version (1.1.1) is unchanged.

Weight Tracker helps adults (and youths) track their weight and keep a log of sugar readings, diet, exercise, etc. Short term, medium term and long term trends are displayed. Progress is compared to your personal weight goal and to an "ideal weight" based on your height (for adults) or age (for youths).

Above you see the Members window with a list of four members of the Doe family. A portion of data collected for each new member account is shown. Each column can be sorted by clicking on the column header. Additional fields (birthday, youth status, weight goal, and password) are not displayed. You need the password, if one were used, to edit the account data, to change the password, to delete the member account or to access the data.

Above you see data fields filled to add a new account for Baby Doe. Note that a password is used. A password is one to five lowercase letters. If decide not to have a password, leave the Password field blank. Height may be entered in inches or in feet and inches. If the account is for an adult, the height must be between 48 inches (4 ft.) and 95 inches (7 ft., 11 in.). If the account is for a youth, the height is not checked but the birthdate is used to confirm that the youth is between two and twenty years old.

Above you see the Member Data window for John Doe. John has clicked on his name, clicked on the "Member Data" button, entered the password (if one were used) and now you see his data displayed. To enter a new row, enter the weight and comment; the date is entered automatically. You can change data in the table by double-clicking on a cell, editing the content, and hitting the Return key. Weight can be entered and tracked in pounds or kilograms. Three trend indicators are provided. The "Last Row Trend" compares the last row to the previous row. If the weight is lower, the indicator is Green and "Down" is displayed. If the weight is the same as the previous row, the indicator is Yellow and "Stable" is displayed. If the weight is higher, the indicator is Red and "Up" is displayed. The "7 Row Trend" compares the last row to the average of the previous seven rows. The "30 Row Trend" compares the last row to the average of the previous thirty rows. Note: Each row could be a new date; you could also have several rows for a single day or no rows for many days.

The lower slider shows how the last reading compares to your weight goal (entered in your account information). The upper slider shows how the last reading compares to your "ideal" weight. If you are looking at data for an adult, the Blue line designates Underweight, the Yellow line designates Overweight, and the Red line designates Obese. The Normal range (no color) is "ideal" weight +/- 10%. The Overweight range is from "ideal" weight + 10% to "ideal" weight + 36%. The Obese range starts at "ideal" weight + 36%. If you are looking at a data for a youth, the colored lines are not shown because there is no hard and fast rule. For youths, it is best to look at the age-lbs graphs (see internet references) to determine if a youth is Underweight, Normal, Overweight, or Obese. For youths, the "ideal" weight shown is the 50th percentile weight for that age.

The "ideal" weight displayed is derived from two Weight Table windows (one for adults and one for youths), which can be accessed from the menu bar.

WeightTrackerWeightTable.jpg

Above, you see the default Height/Weight Table for Adults. Surprisingly, there is no total agreement on what the "ideal" weight should be. Several links to internet sites are provided. If you do not want to use the default table weights, double-click on the "lb" cells and enter new values (kg values are adjusted automatically). Note: The Height/Weight Table for Adults includes "ideal" weights for heights from 48 inches to 95 inches for adult men and women. The Age/Weight Table for Youths includes weights for youths with ages from two to twenty years. You can revert to default table weights by clicking on the "Use Default Table" button.

A simple cm/in and kg/lb converter can be accessed from the menu bar.

When you close Weight Tracker, data for Member Accounts, Members and Weight Tables is saved automatically for future sessions.
