An option for Mac users with an AppleTV©
Mac users who would like to use an external display (TV or Projector) within 30 feet could consider using AirPlay© instead of using a long HDMI cable. AirPlay© uses a wireless link to handle audio and video.
If a wireless link is available in the location, set up the Mac and the AppleTV© to use that link. Connect the AppleTV© to a port on the external display with a short HDMI cable and set the external display to use that port.
If a wireless link is not available, you can use an Apple Express Base© to put up your own wireless link. Set up the Apple Express Base© to use a clear frequency and put up a wireless signal (no connection to internet). Set up the AppleTV© and Mac to use this wireless signal. Connect the AppleTV© to a port on the external display with a short HDMI cable and set the external display to use that port.
Setup the Mac to use AirPlay© (System Preferences / Displays) and set Mirroring to be ON.

It is possible to use AirPlay© with Windows with additional work. Click here to go to the "AboutTech" web page for details.
