Brief Description:
Scrabbler Aid (the name Scrabble is a trademark of Hasbro, Inc.) was developed to help players practice their Scrabble skills and find words to play. Players can find words which start with a particular letter, find words that can be made with their tiles, and find words with two, three, four, five, six, and seven letters. Scrabbler Aid is freeware.

When you launch Scrabbler Aid, you see a window with numerous controls and displays. Drag the window where you want on the display. Its position will be saved between sessions.

To practice making words with a particular letter, choose the letter from the drop-down control and click the "New" button. A word starting with that letter will be chosen at random from the large built-in dictionary, scrambled and displayed in the "Scrambled Letters" field. Above, you see that the User selected "Q" from the drop-down menu and clicked on the "New" button. The scrambled letters are "sauqff".

If you can make a word starting with the chosen first letter using the "Scrambled Letters", enter that word into the "Your Word" field and click the "Enter" button. If the word starts with the chosen letter, uses only letters from the "Scrambled Letters" and is in the built-in dictionary, the word will be added to the table. Above, the User entered the word "quaffs" into the "Your Word" field and clicked the "Enter" button. The word was accepted (started with a "q" and is a valid word in the built-in dictionary) and added to the table.

The same word cannot be entered more than once.

You can choose a different first letter and/or click the "New" button at any time.

Above, the User clicked the "Hint 1" button to see the unscrambled word.

Above, the User clicked on the "Hint 2" button to see all words in the built-in dictionary that can be made with the "Scrambled Letters".

scrabbleraidSS6

Above, the User wanted to see words that could be built with his Tiles and clicked on the "Use My Tiles" button. The "Scrambled Letters" field changed to "My Tiles" with a light blue background. The User entered his Tiles (bizares) and clicked the "Enter" button. The table displays the words in the built-in Dictionary that can be made with "bizares" Tiles.

Providing that a row in the table is selected, typing a letter on the keyboard will scroll the table to the first word starting with that letter (or down to where the word is within view). Nothing happens if the table does not have word starting with that letter.

Above, the User clicked on the "2 Letter Words" to see all two letter words in the built-in dictionary. There are also buttons to see three, four, five, six, and seven letter words in the built-in dictionary.

The built-in dictionary has over 50,000 words with two to seven letters. To see the Maintenance window, click on "Word Maintenance" in the menu bar. The Maintenance window has a table and controls to let you add or delete words or use the default set of words.

Sound (laser flash) can be turned on or off from the menu bar. This setting is saved between sessions.
