Screen Shades Pro
Screen Shades Pro is compatible with Lion (10.7) and higher.

Brief Description:
Users with sensitive eyes might prefer to tone down the display because it hurts their eyes. Apple provides keyboard controls to control backlighting. Screen Shades Pro lets you tint the entire screen and supports a second (external) display. You may also use a Hot Key to turn Shades on/off. You may try Screen Shades Pro in Demo Mode for up to ten launches before registration is required. Screen Shades Pro is $10 shareware.

When you launch Screen Shades Pro, you see the Screen Shades Pro Control Panel. This Control Panel has controls to turn the effect on/off, select the desired tint (gray, blue, yellow, pink, and My Tint [a custom tint color]) and set the tint darkness.

Click the "My Tint" square if you prefer to choose your own tint color. The color window will be displayed. Select the desired color using any of the methods (color wheel, crayons, sliders, etc.) and click on the "OK" button. The color selected will be displayed in the "My Tint" square. Select "My Tint" in the drop-down Tint Color menu to use this color.

Select the desired Hot Key (Option-x, Option-z, or Command-Option-z) from the Hot Key menu bar item.

Click the Shades On checkbox (or use the selected Hot Key) to turn the overlay tint on. Unclick the Shades On checkbox (or use the selected Hot Key) to turn the overlay tint off.

Adjust the Tint Darkness slider (Shades on or off) for the desired darkness.

You may drag the Control Panel out of the way and minimize the window if you wish (click on the yellow dot at the upper left corner). The effect will continue with the Control Panel minimized as long as you do not minimize it using the File / Hide Screen Shades menu item.

To tint all Desktops (Spaces), drag the Screen Shades Pro to the Applications folder and then drag Screen Shades Pro from the Applications folder to the Dock. Hold down the Options key and click-hold on the Screen Shades Pro icon on the Dock and select Assign to All Desktops (assuming there are multiple Desktops). Note: This will not work with Full Screen Mode.

Screen Shades Pro checks for the number of displays (one or two) immediately after launch. If you want to use and tint an external display, the external display should be connected and powered on before launching Screen Shades Pro. If you want only the main display to be tinted, launch Screen Shades Pro with only the main display connected, then connect the external display.

Control Panel position and settings and selected Hot Key are saved between sessions.
